Day-by-day itinerary:
1 day
Walking along Neva banks is one of the
St. Petersburg must. We shall go along massive granite parapets
and a solemn stream of 300 meters wide Neva. The rank of the
palaces on the opposite side is one of the parade, official facet
of the city - St. Petersburg University is one of
the first buildings at the city. Rare sample of the XVIII century
architecture it is a modern center of science - Further we shall
go to the Vasilievsky island point. The Bourse
and Customs buildings remind the visitors that once upon a time
here was a port. Today it is one of the best panoramic points - We
shall cross the Palace bridge (260 meters long)
and stop in the middle to observe one of the widest European
rivers - Palace square is famous not only by the
Hermitage (ex-residence of Russian tsars). It is a surprisingly
harmonic combination of the opposed architectural styles. Moreover
it is a witness of Russian Revolution - Via Arch of Triumph
we achieve the beginning of the Nevsky pr., main
avenue and shopping center from the very first days - After the
boisterous Nevsky you will feel for a moment lonely surrounded by
96 columns of Kazan cathedral. We shall stop into
this majestic cathedral and memorial to the Russian military glory
since the triumph over Napoleon - Church on the Spilled
Blood always attracts attention by its flowery national
architecture so different from anything in the Europe - St.
Michael palace was constructed as a knight castle. After
a tragic murder of its first owner in its walls it has got a
reputation of the ghost place - Peter the Great monument
was created when the famous tsar Peter was alive and represents him
in accordance to his own taste - Fontanka is one
of St. Petersburg channels which gave the city a reputation of the
Venice of the North. It flows through the district previously
inhabited by the old noble families, whose palaces still stand on
its banks - Anichkov bridge across Nevsky pr. is
one of the most famous in St. Petersburg due to the 4 equestrian
statues which decorate it - We shall stroll along the most
prestigious part of Nevsky pr. and drop into one of the most
popular local cafe to rest.
We will take a short ride by metro and then direct our steps to
the Peter and Paul fortress - St. Petersburg
birthplace. Its historical significance is felt to this day by the
presence of every Romanov tomb from Peter the First, city founder,
at the cathedral - Then we stroll along Kamennoostrovsky pr.
which connect the center of the city with the summer resort
islands. Chic and fashionable in the beginning as well as in the
end of the XX century, prospect always attracted the cream of the
society. On our way will be a curious Kirov museum
- an apartment which belonged once to the local Bolshevik leader
of the 30's - Kamenny island is actually a park
with summer houses owned once by royal family and very prosperous
industrialists and later and till now by Russian government -
Elaginsky island was a summer residence of the
queen-dowager Maria Fedorovna. The impressive classicism complex
as well as park pavilions give to the place a majestic appearance -
Then we start our way home.
2 day
We start our second day from the walk along Griboedov channel
toward Kolomna district, described in many of Dostoevsky novels -
St. Nicholas cathedral is one of the most beautiful
baroque churches in the whole of Russia - New Holland
is an island which was used for the ware-houses. Enormous arch in
bricks of the main entrance adds to it an unusual romantic luster -
Theatre square is crowned by the famous Mariinsky
(Kirov) theater which dominates this bohemia area - We glance at
the biggest in the Europe Synagogue and step
forward to the Bolshaya Morskaya street. Here we
will see more of the palaces of the Russian nobility -
St. Isaac cathedral 4000 sq.m. interior is fully
covered with semi-precious stones and mosaics and it is very
impressive. We also mount a circular staircase and have a look to

our route by visiting Bronze Horseman. This monument
to the Peter the Great became one of the city symbols - Along

Hermitage which is not used any more by public and is therefore
rarely seen - Summer garden is the oldest from the
city parks and although it changed its appearance several times, keeps
its charm till now thanks to the marble statues lining the
tree-covered walkways - Peter the Great palace in
the Summer garden is a very unique experience. You can peep at the
Russian tsar non-parade private apartment of the XVIII century.
Kitchen, sitting room, toilet, children room etc - everything is
so real that you would not be surprised running into Peter the Great
in person - Transfiguration cathedral is one of
