St. Petersburg - Helsinki

By train

There are 2 trains daily:
 –  Nr. 34 Repin
Departure from St. Petersburg - 7:32
Arrival to Helsinki - 12:18
Journey time - 5 hours 46 min.
 –  Nr. 36 Sibelius
Departure from St. Petersburg - 16:32
Arrival to Helsinki - 21:18
Journey time - 5 hours 46 min.
A short trip, so both trains consist of only sitting cars.
A one way ticket costs about 50 Euro (66 USD), round trip will cost you double.
You CAN NOT book the train tickets in Russia neither via Internet nor by any other way due to the Russian railway road system. But you can buy your tickets out in advance: please check my train tickets purchase/delivery service.

By bus

The cheapest way to reach Helsinki from St. Petersburg is to go by bus.
The ticket will cost you from 15 to 30 Euro depending on the company you take. Buses operated by Russians are the cheapest. They leave daily close to Oktyabrskaya hotel main entrance (Ligovsky pr. 10, Ploschad Vosstaniya metro station) since 22:30 up to 23:30. One way will cost you about 20-30 Euro - check directly by the driver.
The trip lasts about 8 hours.

By plane

The quickest way is certainly by plane.
As the distance is only 456 km, the flight takes less than an hour. But the standard price is about 300 Euro one way. Promotional offers happen from time to time but you can hardly hope for less that 150 Euro for a one way ticket.

Tatiana's advice

If 50 Euro for the trip is an affordable price for you - take the train. Considering all options it is the best ratio of price/comfort.
