Peter and Paul fortress is the first city building and a "museum in the open air".
It was constructed as a fortress and was used as a political prison - like Tower
in London or Conciergerie in Paris. You walk here among the ancient fortifications
and can visit Trubetskoy bastion casemates. It is highly recommended you visit the
St. Peter and Paul cathedral of the early XVIII century with the burial vault of
Peter the Great and all Russian tsars since XVIII - Russian St. Denis.
In the numerous buildings on the territory of the fortress you will find several
permanent and contemporary exhibitions.
